Department of Ophthalmology
The department of ophthalmology was established since the opening of the faculty in 1991 by Professor Alsir Thabit who was the first chief the department.
The curriculum of the department was putted by the most expert doctors in the field of ophthalmology at that time, (Prof Alsir Thabit, Dr. Abdallah Alsidiq, Dr. Abdelhafiz Abou Yusif, Dr. Samera Ibraheem ) .
By the end of the course the students should know everything about the eye and ocular diseases (anatomy of the eye, diseases of the eye, visual pathway and the commonest causes of blindness, etc.) and how to deal with the patients coming with ocular disease.
The department started with one doctor (officially) and 6 teaching professors, now the department of ophthalmology contain 6 assistant professors and 4 teaching assistants’ majority of them were graduated from faculty of medicine and health sciences OIU.
The department of ophthalmology teaching and learning the students in Alwalidain eye hospital (Omdurman) and Khartoum eye hospital (Khartoum).
